The Overseas Young Chinese Forum (OYCF) is established for overseas young Chinese to exchange their views on social, economic, political and cultural issues concerning China and to develop common aspirations through regular discussions. These discussions emphasize the interplay of various factors affecting the current transformation in China in hope to provide reference points for policy initiatives for China's future transformation. Our purpose in organizing such activities is to educate, to learn, to exchange, and to develop. OYCF is a non-profit organization. OYCF organizes an annual meeting for its members and friends. The Annual Meeting serves as a forum where interested young Chinese individuals from academia, business and government can get together to discuss social, economic, political and cultural issues relating to China and to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue. The inaugural meeting of OYCF was held on April 23-25, 1999 in Concord, New Hampshire, USA. Thirty five members of OYCF attended the inaugural meeting. OYCF also publishes an on-line journal titled Perspectives. Its primary purpose is to exchange ideas, facilitate cross-disciplinary dialogue, and popularize abstract ideas for purpose of education and development. The journal includes an English edition and a Chinese edition. Some of the English articles on Perspectives are translated into Chinese and published on our affiliate journals in China. The inaugural issue of Perspectives was published on August 31, 1999. OYCF sponsors short term teaching trips by overseas scholars and professionals to universities in China. OYCF's original teaching program started in 2000, with the support from the East Asian Legal Studies program at Harvard Law School and the U.S-China Legal Cooperation Fund. Under that program, OYCF members have made three teaching and research trips to the Law School of Renmin University of China in Beijing covering various aspects of the securities and corporate laws. In January 2002, OYCF received a three-year grant from the Ford Foundation and funding from several institutional and individual donors. As a result, OYCF has expanded its teaching program to cover other fields of law as well as various fields in humanities and social sciences, and plans to grant up to 8 teaching fellowships for the 2002-2003 academic year. OYCF intends to reach out in the coming years. We are interested in establishing working relationship with various Chinese organizations both in the United States and China. With its local affiliates or sister organizations in Cambridge, Massachusetts (The Cambridge China Institute and Harvard China Review), Stanford, California (ChinaRains), Manhattan, New York (OYCF in Manhattan), Washington DC and most recently Hong Kong, OYCF holds regular discussions throughout the year.
