Perspectives to Launch Chinese Edition

February 13, 2001

The Board of Directors of the Overseas Young Chinese Forum (the "OYCF") has approved a proposal from the editors of Perspectives to launch a Chinese edition of Perspectives. Under the proposal, four issues of Chinese Perspectives will be published in 2001, in addition to the regular, bimonthly English edition. The first issue of the Chinese edition will be published in March, 2001.

Perspectives is an online journal published by the OYCF, and it started as an English publication. Since its inception in August, 1999, the OYCF has published nine issues of Perspectives with a total of more than 60 articles. As Perspectives receives more and more submissions in Chinese, as more and more of the English articles on Perspectives are translated into Chinese, and as more and more readers ask about Chinese edition of Perspectives, launching a Chinese edition is a natural step in the development of Perspectives.

Due to the increased scale of operation, Su SUN, senior economist at Economists Incorporated based in Washington, DC, has been appointed the third Co-Editor of Perspectives. Mr. Sun will manage the journal together with Bo LI of Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Wentong ZHENG of Stanford University.

The goal of Perspectives is to facilitate the exchange of ideas, promote cross-disciplinary dialogue, and stimulate new thinking. While we focus on commentaries and essays relating to China's economic, cultural, political and social changes, we also publish articles introducing important ideas in humanities and social sciences. Selected English articles from Perspectives are translated into Chinese and published by Open Times, a Chinese journal published by Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences in Guangzhou, China.
