OYCF Teaching Fellowship Program in Academic Year 2004-2005

When the OYCF Teaching Fellowship program moved onto the third year, it received a major boost by a generous donation of $200,000 from Professor Gregory Chow, a world renowned economist . This year, three teaching fellowships were funded by Gregory C. and Paula K. Chow Endowment Fund. In addition, the Ford Foundation continued its financial support to the program by providing funding for five teaching fellowships.

We received twenty-four high quality applications coming from the U.S., Australia, and U.K., and the applicants include Ph.D. students, established scholars and accomplished professionals. Thanks to twelve anonymous referees’ careful review and evaluation, eight teaching fellowships were awarded. Among them, one fellowship was dedicated as the West Region Teaching Fellowship to have one teaching fellow teach in a western inland province or autonomous region. Haiwen Wang, a Ph.D. student studying Education in UCLA, taught in Tibet University at Lhasa. Her courage and commitment made an exemplary case for the program.
